(04/07/22) Shelter Animals Count (SAC) began collecting community services data in 2021 to capture the most common ways shelters, rescues, and service-based organizations are supporting pets and people in our communities. These organizations provide services to keep owned pets in their homes and to keep community pets thriving in their neighborhoods. Organizations that contribute data include animal shelters, rescue groups and non-sheltering organizations that provide direct or partnered services.
SAC is thrilled to release the first analysis of this data, covering partial and complete data entered in 2021, from 1,427 organizations.
We have been tracking animal sheltering data since 2016, but that is only one component of the work that is being done to advance animal welfare, so The Community Services Database was launched at the beginning of 2021. The database allows both animal and human services organizations to count services provided to support pets and their families to both improve their health and quality of life and also prevent families from having to make the difficult decision of surrendering their pets to a shelter for something that can be resolved with these services. We are pleased that nearly 1,500 organizations have contributed services data so far and . look forward to growing this database to provide even greater insights into the work that is being done and to identify where gaps still exist.

The Community Services Database (CSD) is formerly known as the Community Services Matrix (CSM).
