Live Outcome Metrics

Definition: Aggregate count of animals that left the shelter’s care through a live placement. Includes: Adoption, Return to Owner, Return to Field, Transfers Out, Other Live Outcomes.

Best Practices/Considerations When Using:

– Removing transfers out prevents “double-counting” of live outcomes for an animal that is transferred and then has a “final” outcome. **Assumes that transfers have another live outcome.

 

Acronyms or AKA: Community Live Outcomes

Live Outcome Types

Definition: Permanently left the agency’s possession, including barn cat programs resulting in adoption. It does not include animals in foster care or ‘trial’ stays.

Definition: Transferred out of the agency’s possession to another entity

Definition: Transferred to another agency’s possession. Receiving organization is in the same state as reporting organization.

Definition: Transferred to another agency’s possession. Receiving organization is outside of the state where the reporting organization is located.

Definition: Transferred to another agency’s possession. Receiving organization is internationally located.

Definition: Animals returned to their owner after having an intake processed.

Acronyms or AKA: RTO, Return to home (RTH)

Definition: Animals returned to the place they were found after being processed as an intake

AKA: RTF, Shelter-Neuter-Return (SNR)

Definition: Other types of live outcomes not captured above

Non-Live (Other) Outcome Metrics

Definition: Aggregate count of animals that left the care of shelter via a non-live outcome

Non-Live (Other) Outcome Types

Definition: Animal outcome is unknown (escaped from the shelter/foster, stolen, missing, outcome not recorded)

Definition: Animals who die, unassisted, while in custody of organization

Definition: Animals who are euthanized in the custody of the organization. *Except owner intended euthanasia

Definition: Animals who are euthanized at the request of their owner. Only animals included in intake as OIE should be included here.
