Jan McHugh-Smith, CAWA is the CEO of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, an open-admission organization that serves 6,500 animals annually. In addition to adoptions, the organization offers public veterinary services, behavior and training expertise and a robust safety net program. Passionate about keeping people and pets together, Jan’s experience over the past 36 years includes being President & CEO of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, President of the San Francisco SPCA; and Director of Eagle County Animal Control. Jan is a past Chair of Shelter Animals Count, past Chair of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Welfare, and past Chair of CATalyst Council.
Jan has a pack of dogs, mostly Chihuahuas that keep her company and drive her husband and son crazy with their barking. She is an avid mountain biker and birdwatcher, her home in Colorado gives her easy access to both activities.
