Kathryn Mahoney, CPA, CAWA, was named President of Wayside Waifs in 2022. Prior to her promotion, Kathryn served as Wayside’s Vice President of Finance and Administration for 7 years.

Kathryn’s career began in public accounting at BKD, LLP where she audited government and nonprofit organizations. This early experience led her to search for a place where career and passion could collide. Kathryn found that spark when she began her career in animal welfare at the Houston SPCA in 2008. She was hired as the Director of Finance and was promoted to Vice President of Finance and Administration, where she remained until moving to Kansas City in 2015.

Kathryn is a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator and served as Board Treasurer for The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement. She has been an active member of the Association’s Finance Committee for several years. Kathryn participated in the pilot for AAWA’s DEI Ambassador program and continues to be involved in progressing DEI initiatives in the Midwest region. Outside of animal welfare, Kathryn served as President of the Advisory Council for St. Therese Catholic School.

In 2021, Kathryn was named CFO of the Year by the Kansas City Business Journal.

Kathryn and her husband have two children. Rounding out their family are several four-legged family members, all adopted from Wayside Waifs.
